About Michael

Seven years.
Forty countries.
One vision.

Michael Watz is a Midwest-based fine art photographer who spent seven years since retiring — and every dollar he could spare — travelling the globe in pursuit of images that refuse to be ordinary.

His lens has moved through the stark geometries of Scandinavian architecture, the golden light of North African souks, and the raw open edges of coastal wilderness. In every location, the obsession is the same: the specific quality of light at the specific moment it transforms a space into something worth keeping.

Each print in the collection is the final, considered form of that obsession — shot on medium-format film and high-resolution digital, printed on archival Hahnemühle fine art paper with pigment inks rated for over 100 years of display life. Every edition is strictly limited, signed by hand, and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.

The Journey

A retirement turned
obsession

After more than three decades in the corporate world, Michael Watz retired with a single plan: to see the world with a camera in hand. What began as a sabbatical became a vocation, and the vocation became a collection that now spans over 300 images and 40 countries.

"I have spent too much money, and too many years, to walk away from this dream. Every image is a reminder of why it was worth it."

His background in business gave him something rare in the fine art world: a clear-eyed view of what collectors actually want to live with. Not gallery experiments. Not conceptual provocations. Work that earns its place on a wall — and holds it for decades.

Today, MichaelWatzPhotography LLC represents the culmination of that journey: a tightly curated collection of limited-edition prints available to collectors, interior designers, hospitality professionals, and healthcare environments worldwide. Each piece ships from his trusted print partner, Creative Hub, using museum-grade production standards.

Michael is also an active presence on Instagram, Facebook, and Artsy.net — sharing the stories behind the images and building a community of collectors who understand that the right print doesn't just decorate a space. It defines it.

From Capture to Collector

The process behind
every limited edition print

The Capture

Every image in the collection is shot on medium-format film or high-resolution digital — chosen for its rendering of fine tonal gradations and detail that standard 35mm cannot match. Michael spends days, sometimes weeks, at a location before pressing the shutter. He waits for the light that transforms the ordinary into the extraordinary.

The Edit

From hundreds of frames, Michael selects the single image that best holds the feeling of the moment. It is then prepared for print by his production partner Creative Hub, using colour-managed workflows calibrated to the specific paper stock. No digital manipulation — only honest correction of exposure and colour to match what the eye saw on location.

The Print

Each edition is printed on Hahnemühle Bamboo, German Etching or Pearl paper — the same archival fine art papers used by major museum print studios worldwide. Pigment inks rated for over 100 years of display life ensure that the work you hang today will still hold its quality long after most things in your home have been replaced. Every print is hand-signed and issued with a numbered certificate of authenticity.
